Book Title:   The Prayer of Jabez
Author:   Bruce Wilkinson (Multnomah Publishers)
Review Submitted by:   Aloma Lively

A tiny book, an obscure Biblical character, and a short prayer asking for God's abundant blessings. This tiny volume issues a challenge to those who read it to pray the prayer and watch God perform miracles in your life. I began praying this prayer on Jan 1/2001, and can tell you that I have witnessed many miracles in the last three months. To witness the miracles, and to see the Hand of God in them, and to know that there is no explanation except that God has done the unexplainable....it is totally AWESOME.

The simple virtues that are presented, discussed and illustrated in this small book - are the virtues that make our world a more wonderful place to live and grow. They are the virtues that are a part of the Christian's life - in that they portray a character of caring, love and kindness to others. The author seeks to encourage us to seek the power of God, as we develop in our lifelong journey of Christian growth! It is about meditations and prayers based on meals with Jesus. It is a book that has been borrowed many times and brought encouragement. Here is a tiny sample and, if I hear a rattling, I know my sisters are shaking the joy so it spills into today:

"Lord, help me face the day. Help me to seize the time and shake it 'til the joy it holds spills out and fillls my life. Help me to sense your presence on the road and, in those moments when I seem alone, give me the faith that says you're there."

This book includes her choicest statements and descriptions of heaven, the future home of the redeemed. Here you will find not only pictures of celestial glories, but insights into the activities of the redeemed, the certainty of Jesus' coming to take us home, the end of evil, and how heaven can begin in our lives even now.
